Holiday Time. Down Time or Up Time?

We're entering into the time of year when traditionally most distributors take as long as 6 weeks off from their business.

How is it possible to do this, I wonder? What happens to the momentum, productivity and goodwill of your business? Besides, at what time of the year are most people in need of personal, financial and health security? And when, traditionally, are the lay-off (pink) slips handed out? When is it that most people wish they had more time to spend with their families, or have maxed out their credit cards on gifts they can't afford, just yet? It's this time of year!

Just think... how many really look forward to going back to work immediately after the holiday?

It's Not About You - It's About Them!
I can understand not calling people if you're still using the conventional process of selling, because the process is grounded in the philosophy of, "How can YOU help ME?"- (expand my business for example?). For most Distributors, this is an uncomfortable thing to ask even during the rest of the year! Why? Because the focus is on themselves and their bottom line - and the people they call can feel this.

Focusing on yourself increases tension... increases the Chatter of Fear that bounces around the walls of the mind and literally paralyses you into doing... nothing!

Your outcome is a result of your intent and the process you use. If you change your intent and your process by starting with the thought and act of asking the question, "How can I - help YOU?" you dramatically change the outcome to a positive one each time.

The greatest gift you can give is the gift of Helping Others who are looking for help. The reciprocal rewards from doing so are immeasurable, because "When seeking to serve, you ultimately serve yourself."

Selling is a Problem-Solving Exercise.
Selling is about the process of coaching another person to help them come to their own conclusion. To do this you must change the process of telling, presenting and persuading, onto one of Discovery through Dialogue. This is based on the simple idea that Selling is a Problem-Solving Exercise.

The only way you are going to find out if people have any problems and whether your solution is possibly the correct one for them is by asking questions and listening. However, the questions you ask are not only for you, they are for the other person as well. Here's the clue, when people talk about their problems and challenges in detail, they hear and feel the frustration of their present circumstances. They are the ones who persuade themselves to change and move forward.

The key to doing this is Dialogue. Dialogue requires you to get out of your own way by detaching from a need to force an outcome. The outcome is a result of the process you use, and more people will allow you to help them if they feel you understand their situation first.

Within five minutes you can help most people you're talking with discover and feel two important things:

  1. The severity of their problem(s) if any
  2. What will happen if they don't make a change

Wonderful Things Happen on the Road to Discovery!
When you ask questions, listen, detach from the outcome and spend time to get behind another persons problems or needs, even going in-depth about what they have already done about it, you will find...

  1. This will keep you from talking about your solution too early. (Thereby eliminating the #1 cause if rejection and objections)
  2. It will take the pressure off you to 'sell'.
  3. You will be able to customize your solution so that it fits perfectly with what they want and need.
  4. The other person will feel involved and you'll build instant rapport.
  5. It's effortless! The sale, if there is one, is made in the Dialogue. And you'll make it every single time. People will come to their own conclusion to take a look at your solution because as they listen to themselves speak they feel the consequences of staying in their present situation.

Using this approach pays off because...

  1. People are more willing to listen to you if they feel you have listened to them and understand their present situation.
  2. You can help more people in a shorter time.
  3. The greater their problem the less important the cost is to solve it.
  4. You eliminate your fear of talking with people

If you truly believe your in business to be of service, and you're coming from your heart, not your head, then how is it possible to take time off from helping people - especially at the time when they probably need it the most - right now?
