Meet the BOSS FyreBox™
The BOSS FyreBox™ is an award winning, all-in-one fire-stopping innovation. It’s a multi-service cable and pipe transit box that allows large bundles of electrical, fire, plumbing and HVAC services to pass through a single, compact fire-rated enclosure. Rather than core dozens of individual penetrations and seal each opening separately, contractors can simply bundle services together—and have them pass through a single penetration safely offering compliance with Australian and New Zealand building codes and regulations.
It’s ideal for apartment entries, service risers, shafts, data rooms, services cupboards, and other areas in residential, commercial or industrial buildings where multiple services must pass through fire rated walls, slabs, or ceilings/floors.
Why the FyreBox™ Makes Sense
Using the FyreBox™ delivers significant benefits that simplify fire-stopping and lower cost:
- Strong fire protection — certified up to 4 hour fire-resistance ratings (depending on configuration).
- Flexibility and future proofing — services can be added or removed even after installation, thanks to the unique BrushSeal™ system.
- Acoustic & Seismic performance — provides acoustic isolation (up to Rw50) for mixed services and has been thoroughly tested in earthquake conditions to provide large movement capability.
- Labour and cost savings — bundling services into a single transit dramatically reduces labour and installation complexity (studies note up to 90% saving on labour) compared with traditional fire-stopping methods.
- Wide compatibility — tested and approved for a wide range of wall types, concrete floor slabs, ceiling/floor fire-rated systems, and many types of services including electrical, plumbing, sprinkler & HVAC services making it the most versatile firestopping system in the market.
The FyreBox™ simplifies compliance, speeds up installation, and reduces risk and cost — while maintaining high safety and performance standards.
How It Works
- The FyreBox™ is installed into an appropriate fire-rated substrate — either before wall construction (soffit/slab mount) or in a retrofit application where the system offers extensive different mounting and fixing methodoligies to allow installers to adapt to real world conditions.
The BOSS FyreBox™ features an advanced high pressure intumescent material that expands when subjected to high temperatures, forming a high-performance fire seal. Coupled with the innovative BOSS Fire® BrushSeal™, which is designed to streamline installation and compliance, it culminates in achieving an industry-leading standard of protection.
Because it bundles everything into one transit, you save significant space and avoid multiple core cuts and risk of non-compliance. It’s a clean, efficient, cost effective passive-fire solution.
Typical Applications
The FyreBox™ works well in many building contexts. Common use cases include:
- Apartment entry walls and above doorway penetrations to Sole Occupancy Units (SOU).
- Service risers, shafts, and plant-room penetrations in high-rise or multi-storey buildings.
- Data centres, server rooms, and rooms with heavy cabling and mixed services.
- Hotels, student accommodation, aged-care and healthcare buildings where mixed electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and communications systems intersect.
- Any concrete floor slab, plasterboard wall, or fire-rated ceiling/floor system requiring cable/pipe penetrations.
FAQ
Q: Can I add more cables or pipes later?
A: Yes — the BrushSeal™ design allows new services to be added after initial installation without disturbing the fire seal.
Q: Does it support different wall and floor types?
A: Yes — the FyreBox™ is certified for a huge list of different substrates including fire rated plasterboard, concrete, masonry, AAC/ Hebel / Walsc, Speedpanel, Korok, Supapanel, AFS, Dincel, Party wall, Parti Wall, Inex walls systems, CLT, Alphapanel, IntRwall & Pronto panel.
Q: What kinds of services (pipes/cables) can pass through the FyreBox?
- A: Testing has been carried out on an extesive list of common electrical and pipe systems. Such as:
– Appendix D power cables (Except 630mm²)
– Orange circular mains and sub mains
– TPS Power cables
– Aluminium core cables
– Appendix D2 Telecommunications cables
– CAT5, CAT5E, CAT6, CAT7 Cabling
– Intercom, security, LAN & speaker cables
– Coax, MATV, SATV, fig 8 cables
– Fire alarm and EWIS Cables
– Interconnect and Mechanical control cables
– PEX, PEX-AL, uPVC, cPVC, HDPE, PP & PP-R, Kelox & PE-RT combustible pipes
-Lagged PEX, PEX-AL and Kelox Pipes
– Steel sprinkler pipes
– Insulated and un-insulated steel, stainless steel, and ferrous metal pipes
– Insulated and un-insulated copper pipes
– A/C Paircoil
Q: What fire rating does it deliver?
A: Depending on installation and service configuration, it provides fire-resistance ratings of 30, 60, 90 or 120, 180 all the way up to -/240/240. Commonly, 1hr, 90min and 2hr applications don’t require any thermal wrap or blanket.
Q: Does installing a FyreBox complicate future maintenance?
A: Quite the opposite — because services pass through a designated, accessible fire-rated transit, maintenance, inspections and compliance checks become simpler and less error-prone simplifying AS1851 inspections. Passive fire registers and documentation is also simplified as there is one penetration and report compared to traditional methods.
Why It Matters in Modern Builds
With increasing complexity in modern residential and commercial buildings — multiple electrical, plumbing, HVAC, data, communications and safety systems all passing through shared walls traditional fire-stopping (core + individual sealing) becomes time-consuming, error prone and expensive often leading to costly defects and non-compliance.
The FyreBox™ offers a streamlined, tested, and compliant approach. It reduces risk (fewer penetrations, fewer mistakes), cuts labour and material cost, improves constructions sequencing and scheduling of trades and simplifies ongoing maintenance. For developers, builders, trades and compliance inspectors, that’s a big win.
