The wrong sealant can damage CPVC sprinkler pipe
CPVC sprinkler systems are widely used, but not every passive fire firestop sealant is safe to use around them.
Chemicals from an incompatible sealant can migrate into CPVC pipework and contribute to environmental stress cracking or plasticisation. This may occur soon after installation or several years later.
The outcome can include leaking pipes, flooding, sprinkler systems being taken offline and costly remediation – particularly where services are crowded or difficult to access.
Compatibility must be confirmed with the specific CPVC pipe manufacturer. Approval for one system does not automatically mean approval for another.
BOSS FireMastic‑HPE™ is one of the few fire-rated sealants available in Australia and NZ confirmed as compatible with both Lubrizol BlazeMaster® and Spears® CPVC sprinkler systems.
Installers and specifiers should always check both the pipe manufacturer’s compatibility requirements and the applicable BOSS tested or assessed firestopping system before installation.
Small product choice – big potential consequence. Check before you seal.
