BOSS MaxiCollars™: Fire-Safe Pipe Protection That Works
When combustible pipes penetrate fire rated walls or floors, you need a reliable barrier to stop fire & smoke from spreading. BOSS MaxiCollars™ deliver that protection with proven performance, simple installation and broad compliance.
These intumescent retrofit fire collars wrap around pipes and the expanding intumescent seals the penetration in the event of a fire. So you don’t need to compromise on safety when routing plumbing, drainage or other combustible pipes.
What Makes MaxiCollars™ Stand Out
- Up to 4 hours fire protection — MaxiCollars are engineered to deliver FRLs up to 4 hours when installed per the tested systems. Recent testing has widened our scope of approvals significantly, from 1 hour, 2hour approvals all the way up to 4 hours.
- Wide substrate compatibility — Use in fire rated plasterboard/drywall, masonry, block, brick, speedpanel walls, Hebel/AAC and concrete structures. New testing includes CLT floors slabs.
- Space-efficient design — The low profile chassis offers the lowest profile fire collar in the market. At just 30 or 40 mm deep chassis, they’re ideal for tight spaces or when pipes and elbows or fittings are tight to the substrate.
- Size range for many pipe diameters — Comprehensive range of combustible pipes up to 150mm, and collars up to 250mm to suit Thermobreak lagged copper pipes.
- Simple retrofit & new-build installation — Collars simply open up to fit around the pipe with a simple folding clasp to lock in once around the pipe. MaxiCollars also only require 3 x fixings.
- Unique Testing – MaxiCollars™ also have approvals for pipes passing through the wall on an angle, use with PVC fittings, and can be used with BOSS Batts™ for oversized penetrations.
- Tested and compliant — Tested & assessed to the latest standards – AS1530.4:2014 and AS4072.1-2005.
Ideal Use Cases
BOSS MaxiCollars™ are a smart choice for:
- Domestic and commercial plumbing penetrations through fire-rated walls or floors
- Drain, waste and vent (DWV) pipe installs
- Pipe types that carry testing includes: uPVC, HDPE, PP, PP-R, PE, PEX, PEX-AL and cPVC
- Retrofitting fire protection in refits or upgrades
- Multi-storey residential, commercial or mixed-use developments
If you’re working in tight cavity spaces, have pipe bends close to substrates or alongside multiple services, the low-profile design makes installation clean and efficient.
Quick Installation Guide
- As tested, ensure the annular gap around the pipe is sealed with the appropriate fire sealant to the tested depth.
- Open the collar by undoing the latch tab and opening the collar apart.
- Wrap the collar around the pipe and re-insert the fixing tab under the latch flap and fold back over to lock it in place.
- Mark drilling points and secure the collar to the wall or floor using steel fixings (no plastic or alloy fasteners). Refer to test data relevant to appropriate substrate.
- For wall installations, install collars on both faces of the wall; for floors, fit on the exposed face.
This approach keeps installations clean, meets compliance requirements.

FAQ
Q: Are MaxiCollars™ suitable for retrofit projects?
A: Yes. They can open up and be fitted around existing pipes to upgrade fire protection without major disruption.
Q: What pipe sizes do they support?
A: A comprehensive range up to 150mm diameter, with a few larger pipes through floors. Maxicollars go up to 250mm to suit Thermobreak lagged copper pipes.
Q: Do they work with all wall and floor types?
A: Whilst they do have a wide range of substrates including fire rated plasterboard, masonry, concrete, speedpanel, Hebel/AAC, blockwork walls, concrete floor slabs and CLT floor slabs, you must always check the tested system for your pipe type, size and substrate to ensure the system is appropriate to your needs.
Q: How much fire resistance do they provide?
A: Up to 4 hours, (FRL -/240/240) can be achieved for certain tested systems.
Q: Are they suitable for plastic pipes like uPVC?
A: Yes. They are tested and approved for uPVC, PP, PE and other common plumbing pipe materials, however you should always check the relevant test and assessment report to ensure the overall system meets your site specific requirements.
